OMG Socks!! 2/18 - 3/10 3:00 - 5:00 PM
OMG! Socks
Join Jen Lassonde as she teaches you how to knit your first pair of socks! You'll learn how to knit the OMG Heel Sock pattern (by Megan Williams) to make a top-down sock that is fun to knit and fits you perfectly. OMG stands for One Needle Mock Gusset- in short, it's a variation on a traditional heel flap & gusset heel that works up faster and easier... but we think you'll be saying "OMG this is fun!"
Jen will walk you through how to get a good fit, ribbing for the cuff, working your heel flap, heel turn and gusset, decreasing for your toe and the kitchener stitch to close it up.
Please arrive 15-20 minutes before the first class to pick out yarn and materials for this course.
Supplies: ~400 yards of fingering weight yarn (solid, speckles, striping, whatever you prefer. Ideally not a really dark color as that will make it hard to see your stitches), US 1 (2.25 mm) or US 1.5 (2.5 mm) circular needles with a 32" inch cord, 1 removable stitch marker or safety pin to mark the front of your work.
A note about needles: we'll be looking to get a gauge of approximately 8 stitches per inch. As a general rule, if you're a tight knitter, you may want to go up a needle size; if you're a loose knitter, you may want to go down a needle size.
Must be experienced in: long tail cast on, basic decreases and knitting in the round.
Classes will be held from 3:00 - 5:00PM on Sundays, starting Februaury 18th, and continuing on Feb. 25, March 3 and 10.
